Terms


Purpose and endowment of the Award.

This award, which is a regular event, is intended to recognise and promote the contribution of notable individuals or organisations in the world of culture, encompassing both creative activities in the fields of the plastic arts, music, literature, etc., and work carried out in the fields of science, technology and research.

The Award has a cash endowment of 25,000 euros. To receive the award, the winning person or the person responsible for the winning organisation is required to attend the official prize-giving ceremony.

 

Place and deadline for submitting nominations.

Nominations should be sent to the General Technical Secretariat of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Institutional Affairs, at Calle Navarrería, 39-1º, 31001 Pamplona (Spain), by certified post, noting the following on the envelope: '2012 Príncipe de Viana Award for Culture'. If the entry is sent by courier, a faxed notification should be sent to +34 848 424 629 on the day it is dispatched. If nominations are sent by email, the following address should be used:

Nominations can be submitted from the day following the publication of these Rules until 16 April 2012.

 

Nominating parties.

Nominations may be proposed by members of the Navarre Council of Culture and public institutions from any country (governments, ministries, town or county councils, universities, academies, research centres, embassies, consulates, etc.) as well as by legally constituted educational, cultural and social institutions and NGOs from any country, and by any dignitaries invited by the organisation and members of the Jury Panel.

Any nominations submitted by individuals seeking the Award for themselves or for an organisation they legally represent shall be excluded.

The submission of nominations for the Award shall entail full acceptance of these Rules and of the decisions reached by the Jury Panel with regard to the award.

 

Required documentation.

The individuals or organisations mentioned in Rule 3 should submit their nominations together with the following documents:

a) Accreditation of the legal nature of the organisation and, where applicable, the individuals nominated, giving the following details: name, address, telephone number, website if applicable, NIF (tax code) or similar id number, registration number in any relevant Registries, and any other documents that might be regarded as relevant to provide the Jury Panel with more information.

b) An explanatory report (maximum 1,000 words) describing the achievements that support the candidacy of that individual or organisation, and any other information that may be deemed relevant in support the candidate's suitability for this award.

c) A maximum of two letters may be submitted voluntarily in support of the nomination.

d) Any other complementary documentation that will help the Jury Panel to assess and verify the alleged eligibility.

 

Processing.

The General Technical Secretariat may make a non-binding pre-selection for the Jury Panel. To do so, it will notify the Jury Panel of both the proposed list of finalists and all the other nominations submitted.

The settlement of any issues that may arise or be raised with regard to the Award are the exclusive remit of the organizing body.

 

Jury Panel, its decision, and the awarding and presentation of the Award.

The Jury Panel will be made up of seven members —a chair and six members at large— chosen from among dignitaries and recognised professionals in the world of culture. They will be appointed by the Government of Navarre in accordance with the provisions of Clause 5 of Regional Government Decree 13/2012, of 7 March 2012, establishing the International Príncipe de Viana Awards of Navarre.

The decision will be made public by means of a Press Conference for the media either to announce the individual or organisation that has won the Award or, as the case may be, to declare that the Award has not been granted.

The award will be granted by the Government of Navarre, in view of the proposal made by the Jury Panel.

The Award will be presented at a public ceremony organised for this purpose on a date to be announced in due course.


Appeals.

Appeals against the Rules for entries to this Award may be lodged against the Government of Navarre and against its acts of implementation to the Regional Minister of Culture, Tourism and Institutional Affairs within one month of the date following the publication or notification of the act being appealed against.
